Vintage Aluminum Purse New Yorker

This unique purse is made of a rose gold colored anodized aluminum with a
satin finish. The clasp, the feet and the hardware are silver in tone. This box
style purse is similar to both 1950s's lucite purse and the aluminum luggage
made after WW2. The Design is both sculptural and streamlined. There is a
hinged handle that is in the same matching rose gold aluminum. The interior is
lined with a pinkish silver satin lining with one elastic gathered pocket. The
"new yorker" logo is printed in gold lower case letters above the pocket. Comes
with original glass mirror and clear plastic comb that were stored in the
pocket!

This bag was made by the New Yorker purse company which looks to have been in
business in the 1950s and 1960s. I cannot find a lot of information on this
company but the Logo is the same as other New Yorker purses from the 1950s
period.

Measures 10" x 4"x 5 1/2", the handle adds another 5 1/2". This purse is in
good vintage condition. There is a little jiggle or play on the hardware that
holds the handle and there is some scratching on the front of the purse close
to the center and above the sculptural rectangle, this scratching is only
noticeable in certain lights but is I wanted to call it out, see last photo
which is detail of this flaw. Other than that there is a bit of light scuffs
inside and out side but mostly in very nice condition.

From my research I learned that this very sought after vintage hand bag was
featured at the New York Modernism Show over 20 years ago. This very rare and
collectable purse would be a fabulous addition to any collection or any mid
century modern decor!
