An antique leather case used by a travelling salesman in the early 1900s. Oh
how I love this hard sided case! It has fabulous patina on the outside and is
in almost mint condition on the inside. Push down the lock in the centre to
open the case and it reveals a chocolate brown watermarked moire fitted
interior. It has a pocket with a push button flap. There are embossed initials
on the top "F.W.". There is a matching pocket in the main compartment and 2
straps on the inside of the other part of the lid. It is stamped on the edges
"Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company" and their address "112 Regent Street
London. Ltd".

I believe this was a salesman's case however it is possible that it was sold
from the the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co shop on Regent Street, London, in
the early 20th century.

The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company were a large business of retail
jewellers and silversmiths was established in 1880 at 112 Regent Street. In
1952 the company was amalgamated with Garrard & Co. Garrard was the first
official Crown Jeweller of the UK, charged with the upkeep of the British Crown
Jewels, from 1843 to 2007, and was responsible for the creation of many tiaras
and jewels still worn by the British royal family today. As well as jewellery,
Garrard is known for having created some of the world's most illustrious
sporting trophies, including the Americas Cup and the ICC Cricket World Cup
Trophy.

inches deep across the bottom (26.5 inches)
Weight: 2.7 kg without packaging

Condition: This case is in quite remarkable condition. There are no major
flaws. The lock works although the key is missing. The exterior leather has
some stains, especially on the underside, and marks but no rips. The interior
is astonishing, it looks as it must have done when it was bought many years
ago. There is one small dark stain on the base inside the main compartment.
